RCL Engine Management

The RCL line also uses EPA approved engines that are CARB certified. This is accomplished by the use of advanced ECMs and emission control devices. What makes the ECMs able to fine-tune the engine emissions so precisely? The ability to run in closed-loop mode. During operation, the ECM operates in one of two modes: open-loop and closed-loop. Open-loop mode runs the engine on preprogrammed parameters without using the oxygen sensors in the exhaust stream.
The ECM will run the engine in open-loop mode until it sees the engine coolant temperature reach operating range. Once operating temperature is reached, the ECM switches to closed-loop operation. In this mode, the ECM uses the oxygen sensors in the exhaust to measure the exact air/fuel ratio of the engine. The ECM then uses this information to make adjustments to the air/fuel ratio using the electronic pressure regulator, which requires no adjustments in the field.
